Choose Your Onboarding Path

A role-based first month for a fictional organization. Pick a role and work setting, open each step and track progress — nothing is saved or sent.

What this shows: information architecture, role-based sequencing, clear completion criteria and accessible progress tracking.

About this example

The interactive example and the career story are two different things.

The design thinking

A path, not a folder

Every step has a purpose, an estimated time, a resource type and a “done when” criterion. Shared structure keeps the experience coherent; role and setting change the details that matter.

Progress has a text alternative, every control works from the keyboard, and “Switch role” and “Reset” are always available.

The real-world story

Where it came from

Onboarding, training and development are a core part of my People & Culture work. This demo is an illustrative design using fictional roles — it is not a copy of any organization’s onboarding, and it contains no real systems, access steps or employee information.

What a real version would need

  • Confirming the steps with managers and recent hires in each role
  • An owner for every step and a way to update it
  • Real access and setup handled in secure internal systems, never on a public page
  • A check-in after the first month to learn what still felt unclear
